Indications
Tardivex 40 is used to treat adults with Tardive Dyskinesia.
Pharmacology
Tardivex 40 works by blocking a specific protein (VMAT2) that helps store important chemicals like dopamine, serotonin, and noradrenaline in the brain. This action makes the chemicals more vulnerable to breakdown, reducing their release into the brain. This process helps control movements affected by Tardive Dyskinesia. Tardivex 40 doesn’t affect the brain’s other receptors for dopamine, serotonin, or adrenaline.
Dosage & Administration
Adult: Start with 40 mg once a day. After one week, increase the dose to 80 mg once a day. Some patients may continue with 40 mg a day as per doctor’s advice. Take Tardivex 40 with or without food.
Interaction
Avoid using Tardivex 40 with MAOIs, as Tardivex 40 may cause serious side effects like serotonin syndrome. When used with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors, the dose may need to be reduced. Be cautious when using with strong CYP2D6 inhibitors. If taken with digoxin, monitor digoxin levels, as Tardivex 40 may increase digoxin’s effects.

Common side effects include drowsiness and prolonged QT interval (which may affect heart rhythm).
Pregnancy & Lactation
There isn’t enough information about its use during pregnancy. Tardivex 40 should not be used during breastfeeding. Wait at least 5 days after the final dose before breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings
Tardivex 40 may cause drowsiness, so avoid driving or operating machinery. Tardivex 40 may also affect heart rhythm. If you are a poor metabolizer of CYP2D6 or using a strong CYP2D6 inhibitor, the dose may need to be reduced. Avoid use if you have long QT syndrome or certain heart conditions. No dose adjustment is needed for mild to moderate kidney problems, but Tardivex 40 is not recommended for severe kidney impairment.
Overdose Effects
There is limited information on overdose symptoms. If overdose occurs, supportive care, close medical monitoring, and possible management of other drugs involved are recommended.
