Indications

Tygelin is used to treat infections caused by certain bacteria in the following conditions:

  • Complicated Skin and Skin Structure Infections: Caused by bacteria like E. coli, Enterococcus faecalis, Staphylococcus aureus, and others.
  • Complicated Intra-Abdominal Infections: Caused by bacteria like Citrobacter freundii, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Bacteroides fragilis, and others.
  • Community-Acquired Bacterial Pneumonia: Caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, and Legionella pneumophila.

Pharmacology

Tygelin works by blocking protein production in bacteria, preventing them from growing. Tygelin is a type of antibiotic that is not affected by most resistance mechanisms, making Tygelin effective against a wide range of bacterial infections.

Dosage & Administration

Adults: The initial dose is 100 mg, followed by 50 mg every 12 hours. Tygelin should be given through an IV over 30 to 60 minutes.

Pediatric patients: Tygelin is not recommended for patients under 18 years old.

Geriatric patients: No major safety concerns have been noted in elderly patients.

Interaction

Tygelin may interact with medications like Digoxin and Warfarin.

Contraindications

Tygelin is not recommended for patients who are allergic to any of its ingredients.

Side Effects

The most common side effects are nausea and vomiting, usually occurring in the first 1-2 days of treatment. Other possible side effects include injection site pain, allergic reactions, chills, and more.

Pregnancy & Lactation

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult your doctor before using Tygelin. Tygelin should only be used during pregnancy if necessary and if the benefits outweigh the risks.

Storage Conditions

Store in a refrigerator (2-8°C) before reconstitution. Do not freeze. After reconstitution, Tygelin can be stored at room temperature for up to 24 hours or refrigerated for up to 48 hours.
