Indications

This syrup is used for cognitive problems, memory loss due to age, Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), dementia, seizures, epilepsy in children, Alzheimer’s disease, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and drug addiction.

Pharmacology

The active compounds in Bacopa, like triterpenoid saponins and bacosides, help improve nerve impulse transmission. These compounds help repair damaged nerve cells, improve neuron function, and support better communication between nerve cells. Bacopa also protects against cell damage by acting as an antioxidant in certain parts of the brain. Additionally, Monera helps protect the DNA in brain cells and human fibroblasts.

Asparagus racemosus, a well-known herbal remedy, works as an antioxidant to reduce free radical damage in nerves. Monera helps improve the activity of protective enzymes and reduces cell damage caused by oxidation.

Dosage & Administration

2-5 years: 1 teaspoonful (5 ml) 2-3 times a day after meals for 3 months.

6-12 years: 1-2 teaspoonfuls (5-10 ml) 2-3 times a day after meals for 3 months.

Above 12 years and Adults: 2-3 teaspoonfuls (10-15 ml) 3 times a day after meals for 3 months.

Interaction

Bacopa may enhance the effects of thyroid-stimulating drugs or reduce the effects of anti-thyroid medications. This interaction is generally not significant at normal therapeutic doses. Bacopa can also reduce the harmful effects of drugs like morphine and other opiates. Monera has been shown to help reduce the cognitive decline caused by phenytoin, an anti-seizure medication.

Contraindications

Bacopa is generally safe, but caution should be taken in people with hyperthyroidism, fever, or acute infections. Patients with medical conditions should consult a doctor before using Bacopa.

Side Effects

There are no known side effects when Bacopa is used at the recommended doses. Monera has been safely used for many years as part of Ayurvedic medicine.
