Indications
Fucidin is used to treat skin infections caused by bacteria like Staphylococci, Streptococci, Corynebacterium minutissimum, and other Fusidate-sensitive organisms. Fucidin is commonly used for conditions like impetigo, boils, abscesses, varicose ulcers, skin grafts, hidradenitis, infected wounds, sycosis barbae, paronychia, folliculitis, carbuncles, and erythrasma.
Pharmacology
Fucidin is an antibiotic derived from Fusidium coccineum. Fucidin works against many gram-positive bacteria, especially Staphylococci, including strains that resist penicillin and other antibiotics. Fucidin is effective when applied to the skin because Fucidin can penetrate the skin and kill bacteria. Fusidic Acid works by stopping protein production in bacteria, which prevents the bacteria from growing and multiplying.
Dosage & Administration
Fucidin should be applied to the affected areas 2 to 3 times a day, usually for 7 days. You can use Fucidin with or without a dressing. Be careful when applying near the eyes, as Fucidin can cause irritation if Fucidin gets into the eyes. There are no special dosage requirements or precautions for children.
