Indications
HPC Injection is used to reduce the risk of preterm birth in women with a single pregnancy who have previously given birth early. HPC Injection is also used to prevent preterm labor in women who are 16 years or older and have a history of early birth.
Pharmacology
HPC Injection is not completely clear how HPC Injection works to prevent preterm birth, but HPC Injection is thought to involve several processes. HPC Injection plays an important role in regulating the female reproductive system and helps in the successful implantation of the embryo and maintaining pregnancy. HPC Injection works by attaching to receptors in the uterus, ovaries, breasts, and brain. This helps in controlling the genes that affect the body. This action reduces inflammation, which is normally high when labor starts, and helps keep the uterus from contracting too early.
Dosage & Administration
For adults: The injection should be given once a week, either 500 mg or 250 mg. Start the treatment between 16 to 20 weeks of pregnancy and continue weekly until 37 weeks or until delivery, whichever comes first.
Administration: Clean the top of the ampoule with an alcohol wipe before use. Draw 1 ml of the drug into a 2 ml syringe. Inject HPC Injection into the upper outer part of the buttocks. The solution is thick and oily, so the injection should be slow (take about one minute or more). Applying pressure to the injection site can help reduce swelling and bruising.
Interaction
HPC Injection has no known interactions with other drugs.
Contraindications
HPC Injection should not be used in patients with a history of blood clots, breast cancer, or other hormone-related cancers. HPC Injection is also not recommended for women with unexplained vaginal bleeding, liver diseases, or uncontrolled high blood pressure.
Side Effects
The most common side effects include pain, swelling, itching, or lumps at the injection site, hives, nausea, and diarrhea. If you notice symptoms like leg swelling, redness, or pain, or if you have any allergic reactions like swelling of the face, contact your doctor.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy: HPC Injection is classified as Category B. No adequate studies are available for the first trimester of pregnancy. There is no evidence of harm to the baby when the drug is used during the second and third trimesters. HPC Injection is not meant to stop active preterm labor, and its effect in this situation is unknown.
Lactation: Small amounts of the drug may be found in breast milk, but HPC Injection does not appear to affect breastfeeding or the health of infants. HPC Injection should be discontinued when the pregnancy reaches 37 weeks or after delivery.
Precautions & Warnings
If you have blood clotting issues, stop the treatment. If you experience an allergic reaction, you may need to stop using HPC Injection. If you have problems with sugar levels (diabetes), fluid retention, or a history of depression, monitor your health closely while using this drug. If jaundice or high blood pressure develops, talk to your doctor about whether continuing the medication is still necessary.
Overdose Effects
No cases of harmful effects from overdosing have been reported.
