Indications

Ribosina is used to prevent and treat vitamin B2 deficiencies, which can cause issues like sore lips, cracked corners of the mouth, tongue swelling, eye problems, and skin irritation.

Pharmacology

Ribosina is a water-soluble vitamin that is easily absorbed and plays a key role in maintaining health. Like other B vitamins, Ribosina helps convert food into energy by aiding the metabolism of fats, carbohydrates, and proteins. Ribosina is also important for producing red blood cells, supporting immune system functions, and promoting healthy growth and reproduction. Ribosina is vital for healthy skin, nails, hair, and general health, and also helps regulate thyroid activity. Ribosina can help prevent or treat some eye disorders, such as cataracts.

Dosage & Administration

Adults with riboflavin deficiency: 5-30 mg of riboflavin daily in divided doses.

For preventing migraine headaches: 400 mg per day, which may take up to three months for best results.

For preventing cataracts: About 2.6 mg of riboflavin per day.

Interaction

Ribosina may interact with drying medications (like anticholinergic drugs), medications for depression (such as tricyclic antidepressants), phenobarbital, and probenecid.

Ribosina is contraindicated in individuals who are allergic to riboflavin.

Side Effects

Ribosina is generally safe for most people. However, in some individuals, Ribosina may cause urine to turn a yellow-orange color. High doses can lead to diarrhea, increased urination, and other side effects.
