Roxyzin is an anti-anxiety antihistamine that blocks H1 receptors. Roxyzin doesn’t depress the brain, but Roxyzin may work by calming certain areas in the brain. Roxyzin helps relax muscles and has been shown to ease breathing and provide mild pain relief. Roxyzin has anti-nausea effects and is absorbed quickly into the body, usually starting to work within 15 to 30 minutes after being taken.

Interaction
Roxyzin may increase the effects of medications like Meperidine and barbiturates, so doses should be adjusted if used together. Roxyzin doesn’t affect atropine or other similar drugs. Roxyzin also doesn’t interfere with digitalis. However, Roxyzin should not be taken with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs).
Contraindications
Roxyzin is not suitable for people who are allergic to Roxyzin or any of its ingredients.
Side Effects
Common side effects are mild and temporary, including drowsiness, headache, and difficulty with motor skills. Roxyzin can also cause dry mouth, blurry vision, trouble urinating, and upset stomach. Rare side effects may include low blood pressure, heart issues, confusion, depression, sleep problems, tremors, or seizures. Some people may have allergic reactions such as swelling, difficulty breathing, rashes, or sensitivity to sunlight.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Roxyzin is not safe to use during early pregnancy due to lack of sufficient studies. Roxyzin’s also unknown whether Roxyzin passes into breast milk, so Roxyzin should not be used by nursing mothers.
Precautions & Warnings
Roxyzin may enhance the effects of other central nervous system depressants like narcotics, painkillers, or sleeping pills, so doses should be lowered. Patients should be cautious of drowsiness and avoid activities like driving or using heavy machinery. Alcohol should be avoided as Roxyzin can make the effects stronger.
Overdose Effects
The most common effect of overdose is excessive sedation. If overdose occurs, vomiting should be induced if not already happening, and the stomach should be washed out. Monitoring the patient’s vital signs and providing supportive care is important. Blood pressure issues can be treated with fluids and certain medications. Roxyzin is unlikely that hemodialysis will help remove Roxyzin from the body, but Roxyzin may be useful if other drugs like barbiturates were also taken.
Therapeutic Class
Roxyzin is classified as a sedating antihistamine.
