Indications
Itokine 50 is used to treat symptoms related to chronic gastritis, such as a feeling of a bloated stomach, upper abdominal pain, loss of appetite, heartburn, nausea, and vomiting.
Pharmacology
Itokine 50 is a strong dopamine-2 blocker and acetylcholine esterase inhibitor. By blocking dopamine receptors and inhibiting acetylcholinesterase, Itokine 50 increases acetylcholine levels. This helps improve gut movement, strengthens the lower esophageal sphincter, and boosts stomach motility, which speeds up gastric emptying and enhances coordination between the stomach and duodenum.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: Take 50 mg three times a day before meals. The dose may be adjusted based on the patient’s age and symptoms.
In the elderly: Elderly patients should be carefully monitored as they are more likely to have side effects. The dose may need to be reduced or the drug discontinued if side effects occur.
In children: Itokine 50 is not recommended for children under 18 years old as its safety and effectiveness have not been confirmed.
Shock and allergic reactions: If symptoms like low blood pressure, difficulty breathing, swelling in the throat, rash, pale skin, or sweating appear, stop the drug and seek medical help immediately.
Liver problems: Monitor for liver issues such as jaundice or high liver enzyme levels (AST, ALT, g-GTP). Discontinue use if these occur.
Interaction
Be cautious when taking Itokine 50 with drugs like Anticholinergics (e.g., Tiquizium bromide, Scopolamine). These drugs can reduce the effectiveness of Itopride by blocking its action of increasing gastrointestinal movement.
Contraindications
Itokine 50 should not be used by people who are allergic to Itokine 50 or any of its ingredients. Itokine 50 is also not recommended for those with conditions where increased gut motility could cause harm, such as in cases of gastrointestinal bleeding, blockages, or perforation.
Side Effects
No side effects are listed.
Pregnancy & Lactation
The safety of Itopride during pregnancy has not been confirmed. Itokine 50 should only be used if the benefits outweigh the risks. Itokine 50 is not recommended for breastfeeding women as there is insufficient information about its presence in breast milk.
Precautions & Warnings
Itokine 50 should be used carefully since Itokine 50 increases acetylcholine activity. Itokine 50 is not recommended for continuous use if there is no improvement in gastrointestinal symptoms.
Be careful when removing the drug from its packaging, as the hard edges of the blister pack may injure the throat or cause other injuries if swallowed accidentally.
Overdose Effects
If taken in excess, treatment involves stomach pumping and managing symptoms.
Therapeutic Class
Osmotic laxatives
