Generic Name: Fexofenadine Hydrochloride
Company: Apex Pharma Ltd.
MRP:৳ 52.0 (50ml bot)
Is Antibiotic: No
Indications
Alafree is used to relieve symptoms caused by allergic rhinitis, both seasonal and year-round, in adults and children over 12 years old. Alafree effectively treats sneezing, runny nose, watery eyes, and itchy nose, mouth, and throat.
Pharmacology
Alafree works by blocking the H1 histamine receptor, which is responsible for allergic reactions. When exposed to allergens, cells release histamine, which causes allergy symptoms. Alafree prevents histamine from causing these symptoms by stabilizing the H1 receptor in its inactive form. Alafree does not affect other body systems and does not cause drowsiness because Alafree does not enter the brain.
Dosage & Administration
For Allergic Rhinitis:
Adults and children 12 years and older: Take 60 mg twice daily, 120 mg once daily, or 180 mg once daily.
For children 6-11 years: Take 30 mg twice daily or 60 mg once daily.
For children 2-11 years: Take 30 mg (5 ml) twice daily. In case of impaired kidney function, reduce the dose.
For Chronic Urticaria (Hives): The same dosing as for allergic rhinitis applies. For children under 2 years, consult a doctor for the right dose.
Interaction
Alafree does not interact with other medicines through liver processes. Taking Alafree with erythromycin or ketoconazole can increase its level in the blood. Taking Alafree with antacids that contain aluminum or magnesium may reduce its effectiveness. Wait at least 2 hours between taking Alafree and these antacids.
Contraindications
Alafree should not be used by anyone who is allergic to Fexofenadine Hydrochloride or any of its ingredients.
Side Effects
Common side effects include headache, drowsiness, and dizziness. Alafree may also cause nausea, fatigue, and stomach upset. Rare side effects include allergic reactions like swelling, breathing problems, or rash. There have been reports of sleep problems or fast heartbeat in some cases.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Alafree is not recommended for use during pregnancy unless necessary. Limited animal studies suggest Alafree is safe, but there is not enough data for humans. Alafree may pass into breast milk, so Alafree is not recommended for breastfeeding mothers.
Precautions & Warnings
Alafree should be used carefully in elderly patients or those with kidney or liver problems. Patients with heart conditions may experience rapid heartbeat or palpitations. Alafree does not impair the ability to drive or operate machinery, but individual responses should be checked first.
Overdose Effects
Overdose may cause dizziness, tiredness, dry mouth, and drowsiness. Even at high doses, significant side effects are unlikely. Symptomatic treatment is recommended, and dialysis does not remove Alafree from the body.
Therapeutic Class
Non-sedating antihistamine.
Storage Conditions
Store in a dry place, away from light and heat. Keep out of the reach of children.
