Pharmacology

Diamicron MR 60 is a type of medication that helps release insulin from the pancreas. Diamicron MR 60 also helps the body use insulin better and reduces the amount of sugar produced by the liver.

Dosage & Administration

Adults: The usual starting dose is 40 to 80 mg per day. This can be increased up to 320 mg per day in divided doses if needed. Diamicron MR 60 should be taken before meals.

Children: Diamicron MR 60 is not used in children because Diamicron MR 60 is not recommended for juvenile diabetes.

Modified release preparation: Always take as directed by your doctor. The dose depends on your blood sugar levels and may change if your diet, exercise, or weight changes. The typical dose is one to four tablets (maximum 120 mg) taken with breakfast. Do not chew or crush the tablets, and always eat after taking the tablet.

If you take more than prescribed, contact your doctor immediately. Symptoms of an overdose may include low blood sugar, which can be treated by consuming sugar or sugary drinks.

If you miss a dose, take Diamicron MR 60 at the regular time. Do not take two doses at once.

If you stop taking Diamicron MR 60, discuss with your doctor first, as stopping can cause high blood sugar.

Interaction

Taking Diamicron MR 60 with certain other medicines, such as antibiotics, blood pressure medications, and antifungal treatments, may increase the risk of low blood sugar. On the other hand, other medicines like corticosteroids or some antidepressants may reduce its effectiveness. Always inform your doctor of any other medicines you are taking.

Contraindications

Diamicron MR 60 is not for use in people who are allergic to Diamicron MR 60 or other similar medicines, or in those with type 1 diabetes, serious liver or kidney disease, or certain infections.

Side Effects

Common side effects include low blood sugar, which can cause symptoms like sweating, hunger, and dizziness. Severe low blood sugar can lead to confusion, unconsciousness, or even coma. Diamicron MR 60 may also cause skin rashes, liver issues, or digestive problems like nausea. If any of these occur, seek medical help immediately.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Diamicron MR 60 is not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Talk to your doctor before using Diamicron MR 60 if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.
