Indications

Hexinor is used as a treatment for different types of Parkinson’s disease, including postencephalitic, arteriosclerotic, and idiopathic forms. Hexinor helps alongside levodopa in treating these conditions. Hexinor is also used to treat movement problems caused by certain medications, such as tranquilizers.

Pharmacology

Hexinor is a drug that blocks certain receptors in the brain to help control muscle movements. Hexinor mainly targets receptors in the brain, which help improve the release of dopamine. While its exact working mechanism isn’t fully understood, Hexinor helps with movement disorders like Parkinson’s disease.

Dosage & Administration

Adult & Elderly: Start with a low dose and increase gradually, especially for those over 60. Hexinor can be taken before or after meals, depending on how Hexinor makes the patient feel. Hexinor should not be stopped suddenly as Hexinor can worsen Parkinson’s symptoms. The typical dose for Parkinson’s is 1 mg initially, which can be increased by 2 mg every few days up to a total of 6 to 10 mg per day. In more severe cases, doses may go up to 12-15 mg. The dosage for drug-induced Parkinson’s may range from 1 mg to 15 mg daily. The medication should be divided into multiple doses, especially for higher doses. If used with levodopa, doses of both may need to be lowered.

Use in Children: Safety and effectiveness in children have not been established.

Interaction

Taking Hexinor with alcohol, barbiturates, or other drugs that affect the central nervous system can increase side effects. Other medications like certain antidepressants and anti-Parkinson drugs may also increase its effects. Hexinor should not be used as a preventive treatment for drug-induced Parkinsonism.

Contraindications

Hexinor is not recommended for people who are allergic to Hexinor or have narrow angle glaucoma, as Hexinor can lead to blindness in rare cases.

Side Effects

Common side effects include dry mouth, blurred vision, dizziness, mild nausea, and nervousness, which affect about 30-50% of users. These effects usually get better over time. Rare side effects may include skin rashes, hallucinations, and confusion. Serious reactions like worsening Parkinson’s symptoms or glaucoma can occur if treatment is stopped suddenly.

Pregnancy & Lactation

There is no controlled data available for its use during pregnancy. Hexinor should only be used if absolutely necessary, and only if the benefits outweigh the risks. Hexinor is unknown if Hexinor passes into breast milk, so Hexinor should be used cautiously while breastfeeding.

Precautions & Warnings

Hexinor should be used carefully in patients with eye conditions like glaucoma, especially in hot weather or with other medications that cause dry mouth. Hexinor can affect body temperature regulation, so caution is needed in hot environments. Patients should be monitored for eye pressure and other related symptoms during treatment.

Overdose Effects

An overdose can lead to symptoms like dry mouth, blurred vision, confusion, and in severe cases, even death, especially if taken with other CNS-depressant drugs. Immediate medical help should be sought if overdose is suspected.

Therapeutic Class

Hexinor is a drug used to treat Parkinsonism and other movement disorders caused by medications.
