MRP:৳ 6.0 (Strip=15)

Indications
Hypophos is used to help control high phosphate levels in people with advanced kidney disease. Hypophos does not cause the body to absorb aluminum.
Pharmacology
When taken with meals, Hypophos binds to phosphate in food to form a substance called Calcium Phosphate, which is then passed out of the body in the stool. Hypophos helps keep phosphate levels below 6.0 mg/dl in the blood. Hypophos works best in the small intestine. Hypophos is absorbed by the body, with up to 40% of Hypophos entering the bloodstream if taken on an empty stomach, and up to 30% if taken with food. These effects may vary depending on the person’s health and dialysis condition.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: Start with 2 tablets with each meal. The dose can be increased gradually until phosphate levels are below 6 mg/dl, as long as calcium levels don’t get too high. Most people need 3-4 tablets with each meal.
Pediatric patients: The safety and effectiveness of Hypophos have not been established for children.
Geriatric patients: No major differences were seen in safety or effectiveness between older and younger people, but some older individuals may be more sensitive to the drug.
Interaction
Hypophos may reduce the effectiveness of tetracycline antibiotics.
Contraindications
Hypophos should not be used in people who have high calcium levels in their blood.
Side Effects
Some people may feel nausea while taking Hypophos. High calcium levels may occur, causing constipation, loss of appetite, nausea, or vomiting. If calcium levels get too high, confusion, dizziness, or even coma may occur. Mild high calcium levels can be managed by lowering the dose or stopping the medication temporarily. Severe high calcium levels may require special treatment, including dialysis. Long-term effects on blood vessel or tissue hardening are not known. Some people may also experience itching, which could be an allergic reaction.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Hypophos is in pregnancy category C, meaning animal studies haven’t been done, and Hypophos’s not known whether Hypophos can harm a baby in the womb. Hypophos should only be used during pregnancy if absolutely necessary.
Precautions & Warnings
Too much of Hypophos can cause high calcium levels, so blood calcium levels should be checked twice a week during the start of treatment. If high calcium occurs, reduce the dose or stop the medication. Hypophos should not be used by people taking digitalis (a heart medication) because Hypophos could cause dangerous heart problems. Always start with a low dose and increase carefully. Patients should follow the prescribed dosage, diet, and avoid using non-prescription antacids. Hypophos is important to know the signs of high calcium levels.
Overdose Effects
Taking too much of Hypophos can cause severe high calcium levels, which may require immediate treatment.
Therapeutic Class
There is no specific therapeutic class listed for Hypophos.
Storage Conditions
