Indications
Esogap is used to relieve chronic heartburn symptoms and other symptoms related to GERD. Esogap helps heal erosive esophagitis and maintain its healing. Esogap is also used with amoxicillin and clarithromycin to treat Helicobacter pylori infection in patients with duodenal ulcers. Esogap treats Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome, acid-related dyspepsia, and both duodenal and gastric ulcers.
Pharmacology
Esogap is a proton pump inhibitor that works by blocking gastric acid production in the stomach. Esogap is the S-isomer of omeprazole and provides better acid control than other proton pump inhibitors. Esogap is absorbed in the body and reaches peak levels in about 1.5 hours after taking Esogap. The absorption increases with higher doses.

Interaction
Esogap is mainly broken down in the liver by enzymes. Esogap does not significantly interact with many common drugs. Esogap may reduce the effectiveness of some drugs that need acidic conditions to be absorbed, like ketoconazole, iron salts, and digoxin. Esogap can also affect how other drugs, such as diazepam, are metabolized, potentially increasing their effects.
Contraindications
Esogap should not be used by people who are allergic to any of its ingredients.
Side Effects
Common side effects include headache, diarrhea, nausea, gas, stomach pain, constipation, and dry mouth. These effects are usually mild and temporary.
Pregnancy & Lactation
There are no enough studies on pregnant women, but animal studies have shown no harm. If breastfeeding, talk to your doctor first. Esogap should only be used during pregnancy if clearly needed.
Precautions & Warnings
If you have a history of stomach cancer, esomeprazole may mask the symptoms. Take Esogap with caution if you have liver problems. Also, inform your doctor if you’re taking other medications that could interact.
Overdose Effects
Overdose may cause symptoms like tremors, seizures, and heart issues. There’s no specific antidote, and treatment is supportive. Dialysis is unlikely to help since Esogap is highly protein-bound.
Storage Conditions
Store Esogap in a cool, dry place, away from light and moisture. Keep Esogap out of reach of children.
