Indications
Humalog 200 Kwikpen is used to treat people with diabetes to help control high blood sugar. Humalog 200 Kwikpen works faster and for a shorter time compared to regular insulin. In people with type 1 diabetes, Humalog 200 Kwikpen should be used along with a longer-acting insulin. For type 2 diabetes, Humalog 200 Kwikpen can be used alone or with other medicines like sulfonylureas.
Pharmacology
Humalog 200 Kwikpen is a man-made insulin that helps lower blood sugar quickly. Humalog 200 Kwikpen is made by changing the structure of regular human insulin, making Humalog 200 Kwikpen act faster. Humalog 200 Kwikpen is produced by special bacteria in a lab. Humalog 200 Kwikpen helps lower blood sugar by allowing the body to take in glucose from the blood, while also reducing how much glucose the liver makes.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: The dose should be adjusted based on how the patient responds to the treatment. Usually, the dose is between 0.5 and 1 unit per kg of body weight each day.
Type 1 diabetes: About one-third of the daily insulin should be rapid-acting insulin, and the rest should be longer-acting insulin.
Type 2 diabetes: If not controlled with oral medicines, usually 10 units a day of a long-acting insulin is recommended, or rapid-acting insulin can be used before meals. The dose should be adjusted carefully.
Interaction
Some medicines can increase the need for insulin, like corticosteroids and oral contraceptives. Others, like certain antibiotics and alcohol, can decrease the need for insulin. Beta-blockers may hide signs of low blood sugar.
Contraindications
Humalog 200 Kwikpen is not recommended for people who are allergic to insulin lispro or any of the ingredients in the medicine.
Side Effects
