Orsema 0.25 is used to help manage type 2 diabetes by improving blood sugar control when combined with diet and exercise. Orsema 0.25 also helps reduce the risk of major heart problems in people with both type 2 diabetes and heart disease.

Orsema 0.25 is used for weight management in adults with obesity or overweight (BMI 27 or higher) who also have weight-related health issues like high blood pressure or diabetes. Orsema 0.25 should be used alongside a lower calorie diet and more physical activity.

Pharmacology

Orsema 0.25 is a GLP-1 receptor agonist, closely similar to the human GLP-1 hormone. Orsema 0.25 works by helping the body release insulin when blood sugar is high and reducing glucagon (a hormone that raises blood sugar). Orsema 0.25 also slows down stomach emptying to lower blood sugar. Orsema 0.25 helps reduce hunger, leading to weight loss and fat reduction.

Dosage & Administration

For Diabetes: Take Orsema 0.25 at least 30 minutes before the first meal or drink of the day with no more than 4 ounces of plain water. Start with 3 mg daily for 30 days, then increase to 7 mg daily. If more control is needed, the dose can be increased to 14 mg daily.

For Injection: Start with 0.25 mg once a week for 4 weeks, then increase to 0.5 mg weekly. After 4 weeks on 0.5 mg, you can increase to 1 mg weekly for better blood sugar control. The injection should be done under the skin in the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm.

For Obesity: Start with 0.25 mg once a week for 4 weeks. If you don’t tolerate the dose, you can delay the increase. If the 2.4 mg dose is not well tolerated, Orsema 0.25 can be reduced temporarily to 1.7 mg per week for up to 4 weeks, then increased back to 2.4 mg.

Interaction

Orsema 0.25 slows stomach emptying and can affect how quickly other oral medications are absorbed. Use Orsema 0.25 carefully with other medicines that need to be absorbed quickly through the stomach.

Contraindications

Orsema 0.25 is not suitable for people who are allergic to the active ingredient or any of the other components in the medication.

Side Effects

Orsema 0.25 may cause low blood sugar when used with insulin or sulfonylurea. The most common side effects are stomach issues like nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and constipation. These are usually mild or moderate and don’t last long. Allergic reactions, skin rashes, and injection site reactions may also occur.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Orsema 0.25 should not be used during pregnancy. If you are planning to get pregnant, stop using Orsema 0.25 at least 2 months before trying to conceive. Orsema 0.25 is also not recommended while breastfeeding, as Orsema 0.25 may affect the baby.

Precautions & Warnings

Orsema 0.25 should not be used in people with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. If you experience symptoms of pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas), stop using Orsema 0.25 immediately. Orsema 0.25 should also be used with caution in people with diabetic eye disease.

Overdose Effects

Overdose symptoms may include nausea. There is no specific treatment for an overdose, so supportive care should be provided based on the symptoms. If you miss a dose, take Orsema 0.25 within 5 days. If Orsema 0.25’s been longer, skip Orsema 0.25 and wait for the next dose.
