For intravenous use: 5 FU PhaRes can be given either by a rapid injection or slow infusion. A common dose is 12-13.5 mg/kg daily for 5 days, repeated every 4 weeks. For slow infusion, the drug is mixed in a 500 ml dextrose solution and given over 2-3 hours for 5 consecutive days.

Palliative care for cancer: Start with 12 mg/kg intravenously for 4 days. After that, reduce the dose to 6 mg/kg on days 6, 8, 10, and 12. Discontinue on day 12 even if no side effects appear.

For patients with poor nutritional status: Start with 6 mg/kg daily for 3 days, with a maximum of 400 mg/day. If no side effects occur, continue with 3 mg/kg on days 5, 7, and 9. Discontinue on day 9.

Maintenance therapy: After initial therapy, the dose may be repeated every 30 days or continued weekly at 10-15 mg/kg/week, with a maximum of 1g/week.

Pediatric use: Safety and effectiveness have not been established for children, but 5 FU PhaRes is sometimes used with adult doses.

Intra-arterial infusion: For adults, a dose of 5-7.5 mg/kg is given by infusion into the artery using a pump over 10-20 days.

With radiation therapy: A typical dose is 5-10 mg/kg daily in combination with radiation.

With other chemotherapy drugs: 5 FU PhaRes is often used in combination with other anticancer drugs, especially for breast, gastrointestinal, head, and neck cancers.
