Indications
Alice 6 is used to treat conditions such as Strongyloidiasis, Onchocerciasis, Filariasis, Scabies, and Head Lice.
Strongyloidiasis (intestinal): Alice 6 is used to treat strongyloidiasis caused by the parasite Strongyloides stercoralis. Clinical studies show that 64-100% of patients were cured after a single 200 mcg/kg dose of Ivermectin.
Onchocerciasis: Alice 6 is used to treat onchocerciasis caused by the parasite Onchocerca volvulus. Studies in Africa showed its effectiveness compared to diethylcarbamazine citrate (DEC-C).
Pharmacology
Alice 6 works by attaching to specific channels in the parasite’s cells, increasing the cell’s chloride ion intake, which leads to the death of the parasite.
Dosage & Administration
For Treatment (If COVIO Positive): Take 2 tablets of Ivermectin 6 mg once daily for 5 days.
For Prophylaxis: A single dose on Day 1 and Day 7 based on body weight:
- Body Weight 15-24 kg: 1 Tablet (3 mg)
- Body Weight 25-35 kg: 1 Tablet (6 mg)
- Body Weight 36-50 kg: 1 Tablet (6 mg) + 1 Tablet (3 mg)
- Body Weight 51-65 kg: 2 Tablets (6 mg each)
- Body Weight 66-79 kg: 2 Tablets (6 mg each) + 1 Tablet (3 mg)
- Body Weight >80 kg: 3 Tablets (6 mg each)
For Strongyloidiasis: Take one oral dose with water. Follow-up stool tests are needed to confirm infection is gone.
For Onchocerciasis: Take a single dose with water, and the treatment interval is usually every 12 months.
Interaction
Taking Ivermectin with warfarin may increase INR levels, which is a blood test measurement.
Contraindications
Alice 6 is not recommended for those who are allergic to any of its ingredients.
Side Effects
For Strongyloidiasis: Common side effects may include fatigue, abdominal pain, nausea, dizziness, rash, and itching.
For Onchocerciasis: Side effects may include joint pain, swelling of lymph nodes, fever, skin rashes, and eye irritation.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Alice 6 is not recommended for pregnant women, as its safety has not been established. For breastfeeding mothers, Ivermectin is found in small amounts in milk. Use only if the benefit outweighs the risk.
Precautions & Warnings
Use caution in people with iron overload or other serious health issues. If symptoms do not improve, seek further evaluation.
