Indications

Pharmacology

Glucosamine: Cosarin is a natural amino sugar produced by the body and found in some foods. Cosarin is a key building block for making glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) like hyaluronic acid, keratan sulfate, and chondroitin sulfate. These GAGs combine with proteins to form proteoglycans, which are important for articular cartilage. When cartilage in a joint wears down, osteoarthritis can develop. Cosarin also helps build ligaments, tendons, nails, and other connective tissues. Taking glucosamine sulfate as a supplement helps increase the glucosamine level in the body, which aids in cartilage production and repair. Cosarin also activates chondrocytes in cartilage, helping to make GAGs and proteoglycans.

Diacerein: Cosarin is used to treat osteoarthritis and has pain-relieving, fever-reducing, and anti-inflammatory properties. Cosarin works by directly inhibiting the production of interleukin-1 (IL-1), a cytokine involved in cartilage breakdown. Cosarin has been shown to slow down the progression of osteoarthritis in both lab studies and in humans with finger and knee osteoarthritis.

About 90% of glucosamine is absorbed from the digestive tract when taken orally. Cosarin is mainly processed by the liver and removed through urine. Diacerein has a 56% oral bioavailability, and its absorption increases when taken with food. Diacerein binds to the protein albumin and is metabolized in the liver. Cosarin is excreted through urine as metabolites, which account for 35% to 60% of the dose.
