Indications
Rupadin 10 is used to treat symptoms of Seasonal & Perennial Allergic Rhinitis and Urticaria.
Pharmacology
Rupadin 10 is a long-acting, non-sedative drug that blocks histamine H1 receptors. Rupadin 10 also blocks platelet activating factor (PAF), which helps reduce inflammation and constriction in the airways. By working on both histamine and PAF, Rupadin 10 is more effective than regular antihistamines. Rupadin 10 also stops the release of certain substances like cytokines, which are involved in allergic reactions.
Dosage & Administration
Adults and Adolescents (over 12 years): The recommended dose is 10 mg once a day. Rupadin 10 can be taken with or without food.
Children aged 2 to 11 years:
Children weighing 25 kg or more: 1 teaspoonful (5 ml) of the oral solution once daily, with or without food.
Children weighing 10 kg to less than 25 kg: 1/2 teaspoonful (2.5 ml) of the oral solution once daily, with or without food.
Interaction
With medicine: When taken with ketoconazole or erythromycin, the effect of Rupatadine can increase. Rupadin 10 should be used with care if taken with these drugs or other medicines that affect the enzyme CYP3A4. Caution is needed if used with statins, CNS depressants, or alcohol.
With food: Grapefruit and grapefruit juice should not be taken at the same time as Rupatadine.
Contraindications
Rupadin 10 is not recommended for people who are allergic to Rupatadine or any of its ingredients.
Side Effects
Common: Fatigue, dizziness, drowsiness.
Uncommon: Increased appetite, joint pain, back pain, difficulty concentrating, constipation, cough, diarrhea, dry throat, nosebleeds, fever, stomach discomfort, higher chance of infections, irritability, tiredness, muscle pain, dry nose, nausea, sore throat, rash, thirst, vomiting, weight gain.
Rare: Heart palpitations, fast heartbeat.
Pregnancy & Lactation
There is no information on how Rupadin 10 affects pregnant women, so Rupadin 10 should not be used during pregnancy unless the benefits outweigh the risks. Rupadin 10 is also unknown whether Rupadin 10 passes into breast milk, so Rupadin 10 should not be used during breastfeeding unless necessary for the mother’s health.
Precautions & Warnings
Rupadin 10 should be used carefully in people with heart issues, low potassium levels, or who have conditions like slow heart rate or chest pain. Rupadin 10 should also be used with caution in elderly people (over 65 years old). There is not enough data to recommend its use in patients with kidney or liver problems.
Overdose Effects
Too much of this medicine may cause drowsiness. If an overdose happens, seek medical attention and treat symptoms as needed.
