Indications
Lonazep MD 0.5 is used to treat Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), and Depression.
Pharmacology
Lonazep MD 0.5 is a type of antidepressant that belongs to the dibenzazepine group. Lonazep MD 0.5 is believed to help with obsessive and compulsive behaviors by affecting serotonin in the brain. Although the exact mechanism is not fully understood, Lonazep MD 0.5 is thought to stop the reuptake of serotonin, which is important in controlling behaviors like obsessions and compulsions.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: The starting dose is 25 mg taken at bedtime for about a week. The dose can be gradually increased but should not exceed 150 mg per day. For elderly patients, the maximum dose is 75 mg per day. Lonazep MD 0.5 can be taken in divided doses to reduce stomach issues.
Children: Lonazep MD 0.5 is not recommended for children.
Interaction
Avoid taking Lonazep MD 0.5 with other medications for depression like MAOIs (e.g., tranylcypromine, phenelzine), SSRIs (e.g., fluoxetine, paroxetine), and other antidepressants. Lonazep MD 0.5 should also not be combined with diuretics (water pills), anesthetics, blood pressure medications (beta blockers), and anticoagulants.
Contraindications
Lonazep MD 0.5 should not be used by patients who are allergic to Lonazep MD 0.5 or other similar antidepressants. Lonazep MD 0.5 is not safe for people recovering from a recent heart attack or those taking MAO inhibitors within 14 days.
Side Effects
Common side effects include stomach problems, headache, dizziness, nausea, constipation, dry mouth, sweating, shaking, trouble urinating, eye issues, tiredness, sexual problems, and restlessness.
Pregnancy & Lactation
No well-controlled studies on safety during pregnancy. Lonazep MD 0.5 is likely that Lonazep MD 0.5 can pass into breast milk. Lonazep MD 0.5 should be avoided during pregnancy unless necessary due to potential risks to the fetus.
Precautions & Warnings
Consult your doctor if you have a history of suicidal thoughts, epilepsy, head injuries, heart problems, low potassium, kidney disease, schizophrenia, blood disorders, overactive thyroid, long-term constipation, adrenal tumors, liver disease, low blood pressure, or use contact lenses.
Overdose Effects
Symptoms of overdose can include dry mouth, dilated pupils, coma, seizures, heart problems, breathing issues, and changes in blood pressure.
