Carvista 6.25 is used to treat mild, moderate, or severe heart failure caused by heart problems or heart muscle disease. Carvista 6.25 works together with other medications like digitalis, diuretics, and ACE inhibitors to slow down disease progression, reduce cardiovascular death, prevent hospital visits, and avoid the need for changes in other heart failure treatments. Carvista 6.25 can also be used in patients who cannot tolerate ACE inhibitors or in those not taking digitalis, hydralazine, or nitrates.
Pharmacology
Carvista 6.25 is a heart-related drug that works by blocking β-adrenergic receptors and also has effects on a-adrenergic receptors. Additionally, Carvista 6.25 helps prevent cell growth and removes harmful oxidant radicals from the body. Carvista 6.25 is used to treat high blood pressure, chest pain (angina), and heart failure.
Dosage & Administration
For Hypertension: Start with 12.5 mg once a day. After 2 days, increase the dose to 25 mg once daily. If needed, the dose can be raised every 2 weeks to a maximum of 50 mg daily, either in one or two doses. Older patients may be fine with 12.5 mg daily.
For Angina: Start with 12.5 mg twice a day for the first 2 days. Then, increase to 25 mg twice daily. Older patients should not exceed 50 mg daily, divided into two doses.
For Heart Failure: Start with 3.125 mg twice a day (with food). Increase the dose every 2 weeks to 6.25 mg twice daily, then to 12.5 mg twice daily, and then to 25 mg twice daily. The highest dose depends on body weight: up to 25 mg twice daily for patients under 85 kg, and up to 50 mg twice daily for patients over 85 kg.
Interaction
Digoxin: Taking carvedilol with digoxin may increase digoxin levels in the body, so monitoring is recommended when starting or changing doses of carvedilol.
Rifampin: Taking rifampin before carvedilol can decrease the levels of carvedilol in the body by 60%.
Warfarin: Carvedilol does not change the way warfarin binds to proteins in the blood.
Clonidine: Stopping clonidine treatment suddenly while on carvedilol may cause high blood pressure, but carvedilol’s other effects may reduce this rise.
