Indications

ABO Kit is used for early Menstrual Regulation (MR) or termination of pregnancy up to 9 weeks (63 days) of pregnancy.

Pharmacology

Mifepristone: ABO Kit is a synthetic steroid that blocks progesterone, which helps to end the pregnancy. ABO Kit also prepares the uterus to respond to prostaglandins that cause contractions.

Misoprostol: ABO Kit is a synthetic version of prostaglandin E1. ABO Kit helps the uterus contract and softens the cervix to expel the pregnancy.

Dosage & Administration

Day 1 (First visit): One tablet of Mifepristone (200 mg) is taken under the supervision of a doctor.

Day 2 (Second visit): 24-48 hours later, take four 200 microgram tablets (800 micrograms) of Misoprostol. The tablets can be taken buccally or sublingually (placed in the cheek or under the tongue).

Day 10 to 14 (Third visit): Return to the doctor’s office to confirm that the pregnancy has been terminated. If not, further treatment may be required.

Interaction

Mifepristone: Medicines like Ketoconazole, Itraconazole, Erythromycin, and grapefruit juice may increase the levels of Mifepristone in the blood.

Misoprostol: Misoprostol does not interfere with aspirin’s effects for rheumatoid arthritis.

Contraindications

ABO Kit should not be used by people with allergies to Mifepristone or Misoprostol, or with conditions like ectopic pregnancy, an intrauterine device (IUD) in place, or severe bleeding problems.

Side Effects

Mifepristone: Side effects may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, pelvic pain, fainting, and dizziness.

Misoprostol: Possible side effects include diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, severe bleeding, and in rare cases, uterine rupture or shock.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Pregnancy: ABO Kit is used to terminate early pregnancy. If the pregnancy continues after treatment, ABO Kit may cause malformation, and further surgical intervention is recommended.

Lactation: ABO Kit is not known if these medications pass into breast milk. Breastfeeding mothers should consult their doctor before use.

Precautions & Warnings

ABO Kit should not be used by someone else, especially if they are pregnant. Any intrauterine device (IUD) must be removed before starting treatment. Surgical abortion is suggested if the combination of Mifepristone and Misoprostol fails.

Overdose Effects

Mifepristone: Overdoses are rare, but close monitoring for signs of adrenal failure is recommended.

Misoprostol: Overdose signs may include sedation, tremors, abdominal pain, or diarrhea. Treatment is supportive, and dialysis is unlikely to help.

Therapeutic Class

ABO Kit is a drug that affects the uterus, specifically a prostaglandin analogue.

Storage Conditions

Store in a cool and dry place, away from light.
