Indications
Acecard 2.5 is used to treat high blood pressure, either alone or with other medicines. Acecard 2.5 is also used for heart failure, especially with diuretics. Acecard 2.5 helps patients with heart problems after a heart attack, improves kidney health for people with kidney issues (including diabetics), and lowers the risk of heart attacks, strokes, or death in patients with heart disease or other health risks like diabetes, high cholesterol, or smoking.
Pharmacology
Acecard 2.5 is an ACE inhibitor that works by blocking a substance in the body that narrows blood vessels. This helps to relax the blood vessels, lowering blood pressure. Acecard 2.5 is effective in managing heart failure, reducing the risk of strokes, heart attacks, and death from heart problems. Acecard 2.5 is long-lasting and well-tolerated, making Acecard 2.5 suitable for long-term use.
Dosage & Administration
Hypertension: The usual starting dose is 1.25-2.5 mg once a day. The dose may be increased gradually, with the usual maintenance dose ranging from 2.5-20 mg daily, either as a single dose or in two doses. If blood pressure is not controlled, a diuretic may be added.
Heart failure after a heart attack: Start with 2.5 mg twice a day. If low blood pressure occurs, the dose may be reduced to 1.25 mg twice daily. The dose is then increased to 5 mg twice daily as tolerated.
Prevention of major cardiovascular events: Start with 2.5 mg once a day for the first week, then increase to 5 mg once a day for the next three weeks, followed by 10 mg once a day as needed.
Renal impairment: For patients with kidney problems, the starting dose is 1.25 mg once a day. The dose may be adjusted based on response, up to a maximum of 5 mg daily.
Interaction
Taking Acecard 2.5 with diuretics may cause low blood pressure and dangerous levels of potassium. Acecard 2.5 may increase the levels of lithium in the blood when taken with lithium medications. Alcohol can make the effects of the medicine stronger, and NSAIDs can reduce its effectiveness and harm the kidneys.
Contraindications
Acecard 2.5 should not be used in people who are allergic to Acecard 2.5 or any other ACE inhibitors, or who have a history of swelling (angioedema). Acecard 2.5 should not be used with certain medicines like sacubitril/valsartan or aliskiren in patients with diabetes or kidney problems. Acecard 2.5 is also not recommended during pregnancy and should be avoided by breastfeeding mothers.
Side Effects
Common side effects include dizziness, headache, fatigue, and weakness. Less common side effects may include low blood pressure, cough, nausea, vomiting, rash, and anxiety. Serious side effects like swelling, allergic reactions, and high potassium levels are rare.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Acecard 2.5 should not be taken during pregnancy, as Acecard 2.5 can harm the baby. If pregnancy is planned or occurs while taking Acecard 2.5, the medication should be stopped immediately. Acecard 2.5 is also not recommended for breastfeeding mothers.
Precautions & Warnings
Acecard 2.5 should be used with caution in patients with kidney problems, high potassium levels, low blood pressure, or liver problems.
Overdose Effects
Overdose may cause excessive blood vessel widening, leading to low blood pressure, shock, slow heart rate, and kidney failure. Treatment includes detoxification and medications to restore blood pressure and electrolytes.
Therapeutic Class
Acecard 2.5 is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor.
Storage Conditions
