Pharmacology

Acelex is a type of antibiotic that works by stopping bacteria from making their cell walls. Without a strong cell wall, bacteria can’t survive. Acelex is part of the cephalosporin family, and Acelex works well when taken orally.

Dosage & Administration

Adults: The usual dose is 250 mg to 500 mg every 6 hours. For skin infections, strep throat, or simple bladder infections in people over 15 years old, take 500 mg every 12 hours. In more severe cases, the dose can go up to 3-6 grams daily.

Children: The dose depends on weight. For example, for a 10 kg child, the dose would be 62.5-125 mg four times a day, or 125-250 mg twice a day. The maximum daily dose is 4 grams.

If treating ear infections or strep throat, the daily dose can be split into two doses taken every 12 hours. For ear infections, 75-100 mg/kg/day is needed in four doses.
