Indications

Acemox is used to treat open-angle glaucoma, secondary glaucoma, and also helps reduce swelling and control epilepsy.

Pharmacology

Acemox works by blocking an enzyme called carbonic anhydrase, which helps lower eye pressure in glaucoma. This enzyme is also involved in nerve activity, which is why Acemox can help control epilepsy. By reducing fluid buildup, Acemox also helps in conditions causing swelling.

Dosage & Administration

Adults: Start with 250 mg (1 tablet) four times a day. The dose may be adjusted as needed.

Children: Half to two tablets daily, split into multiple doses.

For high eye pressure: 1 tablet every 6 hours. In urgent cases, start with 2 tablets, then continue with 1 tablet every 6 hours or as directed by a doctor.

Contraindications

Acemox should not be used in people with severe kidney or liver problems, low sodium or potassium levels, or chronic noncongestive angle-closure glaucoma.

Side Effects

Common side effects include headache, dizziness, drowsiness, tiredness, loss of appetite, frequent urination, trouble sleeping, and stomach discomfort.

Pregnancy & Lactation

There is not enough research on its effects during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Acemox should be used cautiously in these conditions.
