Indications
Acyclovir & Hydrocortisone Cream is used for the early treatment of recurrent cold sores (herpes labialis) to reduce the likelihood of ulcerative cold sores and shorten lesion healing time in adults and children aged 6 years and older.
Pharmacology
Acyclovir is a synthetic purine nucleoside analogue with selective inhibitory activity against herpes simplex viruses (HSV-1 and HSV-2). Acerux-H works by inhibiting viral DNA replication through three mechanisms: competitive inhibition of viral DNA polymerase, termination of the viral DNA chain, and inactivation of the viral DNA polymerase.
Hydrocortisone is a glucocorticoid with anti-inflammatory properties that helps suppress clinical manifestations of inflammation in various conditions.
Dosage & Administration
Apply the cream topically five times daily for five days. Start treatment as early as possible after the first signs and symptoms of a cold sore.

Side Effects
Common side effects (<1%) include local skin reactions such as drying or flaking of the skin, burning or tingling, erythema, pigmentation changes, and application site inflammation.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category B. Systemic exposure of Acyclovir and Hydrocortisone through topical application is minimal. Acerux-H is unknown if they are excreted in breast milk. Use caution when administered to nursing women.
Precautions & Warnings
Do not apply the cream in the eyes, inside the mouth or nose, or on the genitals. Seek medical advice if a cold sore does not heal within two weeks.
Overdose Effects
No harmful effects are expected due to minimal systemic absorption.
