Pharmacology
Aciflox 200 is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that works by inhibiting DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, which are enzymes necessary for bacterial survival. This action helps Aciflox 200 kill various bacteria that infect the lungs and airways. Aciflox 200 has been proven effective in many clinical trials for treating bacterial infections and is stronger in some cases compared to other antibiotics like fluoroquinolones. Aciflox 200 works well against gram-positive bacteria like Streptococcus pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus, Mycobacteria, and Chlamydia species.
Absorption: Aciflox 200 is well absorbed when taken orally, with a bioavailability of 92%. After taking a 400-mg dose, the peak plasma concentration is reached within 3 to 6 hours. Taking Aciflox 200 with food or milk does not affect how well Aciflox 200 is absorbed, but taking Aciflox 200 with antacids can reduce absorption by up to 50%.
Distribution: Once in the bloodstream, Aciflox 200 spreads well throughout the body and reaches high concentrations in respiratory tissues. Aciflox 200 accumulates in the lungs, where its concentration is 3 to 6 times higher than in the plasma.
Metabolism: Aciflox 200 is processed by the liver and does not interfere with other drugs that are broken down by the liver’s cytochrome system.
Excretion: Aciflox 200 is eliminated equally in the feces and urine, with about 10% of the drug being excreted unchanged in the urine for people with normal kidney function.
Dosage & Administration
For adults with normal kidney function: The recommended dose is two 200 mg tablets on the first day, followed by one 200 mg tablet once a day for a total of 10 days (11 tablets).
For adults with kidney issues (creatinine clearance <50 mL/min): The dose is the same on the first day, but thereafter, one 200 mg tablet should be taken every 48 hours for a total of 9 days (6 tablets).
Interaction
Aciflox 200 should not be taken with antacids or sucralfate, as they can reduce its effectiveness. Aciflox 200 may interact with medications that affect the heart’s rhythm, such as terfenadine. However, Aciflox 200 does not interact with common medications like theophylline, caffeine, warfarin, or cimetidine. Probenecid does not affect how Aciflox 200 works in the body.
Contraindications
Aciflox 200 should not be used by people who are allergic to any of its ingredients, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, those with Glucose-6-Phosphate Dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency, or those who have had Achilles tendinitis after taking fluoroquinolones.
Side Effects
The side effects are usually mild and go away after some time. The most common ones are: skin sensitivity to sunlight, diarrhea, nausea, headaches, indigestion, dizziness, trouble sleeping, stomach pain, itching, altered taste, heart rhythm problems, vomiting, gas, and blood vessel expansion.
Pregnancy & Lactation
There have been no well-controlled studies in pregnant women, so Aciflox 200 should only be used during pregnancy if the benefits outweigh the risks to the unborn child.
Precautions & Warnings
Patients should avoid direct or indirect sunlight, as Aciflox 200 can cause severe skin reactions while using this medicine. If any signs of skin burning, rash, or itching occur, the treatment should be stopped. The safety of Aciflox 200 in children, pregnant women, and breastfeeding mothers has not been established. Be cautious in patients with kidney problems and those taking other medications that affect the heart’s rhythm.
Overdose Effects
There is no specific information available for overdose effects.
Therapeutic Class
Aciflox 200 belongs to the class of 4-Quinolone antibiotics.
Storage Conditions
Store Aciflox 200 away from heat, light, and moisture, and keep Aciflox 200 out of reach of children. Keep Aciflox 200 below 30ºC.
