Indications

Acilog is used to help control blood sugar levels in adults and children with diabetes mellitus.

Pharmacology

Acilog helps control glucose levels by binding to receptors on muscle and fat cells. This lowers blood sugar by allowing cells to take in glucose and by preventing the liver from producing more glucose.

Dosage & Administration

Adults: The dose is determined by the doctor based on the patient’s needs. For people with type 2 diabetes, Acilog can be used alone or with oral diabetes medicines. The usual starting dose is 6 IU at breakfast and 6 IU at dinner. Acilog may also be started with 12 IU at dinner. If more doses are needed, the doctor may recommend taking the dose twice a day. In case of hypoglycemia, dose adjustments should be made carefully.

Children: Safety in children has not been fully studied.

Interaction

Some medications may change how much insulin is needed. Certain drugs can lower the need for insulin, such as oral diabetes medicines, ACE inhibitors, and others. Other medications, like thiazides and corticosteroids, can increase the need for insulin. Some substances may affect insulin’s ability to lower blood sugar.

Contraindications

Acilog should not be used during hypoglycemia or in people who are allergic to Insulin Aspart or any of its ingredients.

Side Effects

Possible side effects include low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), allergic reactions, pain or swelling at the injection site, changes in skin fat, itching, and rash.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Acilog is considered safe during pregnancy (Category B). There are no known risks to breastfeeding mothers using Insulin Aspart. However, dosage may need to be adjusted.

Precautions & Warnings

Blood sugar levels should be regularly checked in people using insulin. Any changes in the insulin regimen should be made carefully and under a doctor’s supervision.

Overdose Effects

In case of overdose, hypoglycemia may occur. If mild, Acilog can be treated with glucose or sugary products. In severe cases, glucagon or intravenous glucose may be needed. Once awake, the patient should consume carbohydrates to prevent a relapse.

Therapeutic Class

Acilog is a rapid-acting insulin used to control blood sugar.

Storage Conditions

Store in a refrigerator between 2°C to 8°C. Do not freeze. Keep away from light.
