Acnesone works by reducing inflammation and fighting bacteria. Acnesone blocks certain enzymes, preventing bacteria from making folic acid, which they need to grow. This action helps reduce acne by decreasing bacterial growth and calming the skin.
Dosage & Administration
Apply once daily if using the 7.5% gel or twice daily if using the 5% gel.
Clean and dry the skin before applying a small amount of gel evenly over the affected area.
Rub the gel in gently until Acnesone is fully absorbed.
If there is no improvement after 12 weeks, consult a doctor.
Wash hands after applying.
Interaction
Taking certain antibiotics like Trimethoprim/Sulfamethoxazole can increase its level in the body. Using Acnesone with benzoyl peroxide may cause temporary skin discoloration (yellow or orange).
Contraindications
Acnesone should not be used by people who are allergic to Acnesone.
Side Effects
Common side effects include oily skin, dryness, redness, and peeling at the application site.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Acnesone falls under Pregnancy Category C, meaning its effects on unborn babies are not well studied. Acnesone should be used only if the benefits outweigh the risks. Since small amounts can pass into breast milk, a doctor should be consulted before use during breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings
Acnesone may cause a blood disorder called Methemoglobinemia, which reduces oxygen in the blood. Stop using Acnesone and seek medical attention if symptoms like shortness of breath, dizziness, or bluish skin appear. Those with G6PD deficiency may have an increased risk of blood-related issues.
Overdose Effects
No serious overdose effects have been reported.
Therapeutic Class
Acnesone belongs to the acne treatment category.
