Indications

Adarbi 40 is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of serious heart and brain problems, such as stroke and heart attacks. Adarbi 40 can be used alone or with other medications to treat high blood pressure.

Pharmacology

Adarbi 40 works by blocking the action of a substance in the body called angiotensin II, which causes blood vessels to tighten and increase blood pressure. By blocking angiotensin II, Adarbi 40 helps relax the blood vessels, lower blood pressure, and reduce the strain on the heart. Adarbi 40 has a strong effect on the AT1 receptor, which is involved in regulating blood pressure, and is more effective than other similar treatments. Unlike ACE inhibitors, Adarbi 40 doesn’t affect the breakdown of other substances like bradykinin.

Dosage & Administration

Adults: The usual dose is 80 mg once daily. If you are already using high doses of diuretics, a lower starting dose of 40 mg may be recommended. If blood pressure isn’t controlled with just Azilsartan, Adarbi 40 can be combined with other medications.

Interaction

There are no significant interactions with drugs like amlodipine, antacids, and warfarin. However, the effectiveness of Azilsartan may be reduced if used with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), including selective COX-2 inhibitors. Combining Adarbi 40 with other blood pressure medications, like ACE inhibitors, may increase the risk of low blood pressure, high potassium levels, and kidney problems.

Contraindications

Adarbi 40 should not be used together with Aliskiren in patients with diabetes.

Side Effects

Common side effects include diarrhea. Other side effects may include nausea, tiredness, muscle cramps, dizziness, and a cough.

Pregnancy & Lactation

If pregnant, especially during the second or third trimesters, Adarbi 40 can harm the baby. Adarbi 40 is unknown whether Adarbi 40 is excreted in breast milk, so a decision should be made whether to stop breastfeeding or stop using the drug, depending on the importance of the medication to the mother.

Precautions & Warnings

Using Azilsartan during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy can harm the baby’s kidneys and increase the risk of complications. Patients with low blood volume or those taking high doses of diuretics may experience low blood pressure. Kidney problems have been reported in patients with existing kidney issues.

Overdose Effects

Limited information is available about overdose effects in humans. In the case of overdose, supportive treatment should be provided based on the patient’s symptoms.
