Indications
Adnor 3 is used to treat insomnia, especially when people have trouble staying asleep. Clinical trials showed Adnor 3 works for up to 3 months.
Pharmacology
Adnor 3 works by attaching to a part of the brain called the histamine H1 receptor, though the exact way Adnor 3 helps with sleep is still not fully understood.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: The recommended dose is 6 mg once a day, right before bed. Some people may only need 3 mg a day, depending on what their doctor says.
Elderly: For patients 65 and older, start with 3 mg once daily. Adnor 3 can go up to 6 mg if needed.
How to take Adnor 3: Take Adnor 3 30 minutes before bed. Avoid taking Adnor 3 within 3 hours of eating. Don’t take more than 6 mg a day.
Pediatric patients: Safety for children hasn’t been tested.
Interaction
Cytochrome P450 Isozymes: Adnor 3 is mainly processed by the liver using certain enzymes (CYP2C19 and CYP2D6). If other medications stop these enzymes from working, Adnor 3 may cause higher levels of this medicine in the body.
Cimetidine: Taking cimetidine (a medication for ulcers) with Adnor 3 can increase the amount of this medicine in the body. If combined, a maximum dose of 3 mg is recommended.
Alcohol: Alcohol can make Adnor 3 work too strongly, causing more drowsiness.
CNS Depressants and Sedating Antihistamines: Combining Adnor 3 with other sedating medications can increase drowsiness.
Tolazamide: A diabetic patient taking tolazamide had severe low blood sugar when also taking this medicine.
Contraindications
Adnor 3 is not suitable for people who are allergic to Adnor 3 or its ingredients, or those with certain conditions like narrow-angle glaucoma or severe urinary retention.
Side Effects
Some serious side effects include changes in thinking and behavior, increased risk of suicide, and depression symptoms getting worse. Adnor 3 can also cause CNS depression (drowsiness and difficulty staying awake).
Pregnancy & Lactation
If pregnant, talk to your doctor before using Adnor 3. Adnor 3’s not clear if Adnor 3’s safe during pregnancy, and Adnor 3 can harm the baby in high doses. This medicine is also found in breast milk, so be cautious if you’re breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings
Before treating insomnia, make sure there are no underlying medical or psychiatric conditions. If insomnia doesn’t improve after 7-10 days, further investigation is needed.
Be aware that this medication can cause unusual behaviors like “sleep-driving” or doing things without remembering. Adnor 3’s important to stop taking Adnor 3 if you experience these behaviors. Also, Adnor 3 can cause depression to worsen and increase suicidal thoughts, especially in people with a history of depression.
