Indications
Adora is used to treat the following infections:
- Streptococcal throat and tonsil infections
- Bronchopneumonia and bacterial pneumonia
- Uncomplicated urinary tract infections like pyelonephritis and cystitis
- Skin and soft tissue infections such as abscesses, boils, impetigo, erysipelas, pyoderma, and lymph node infections
Pharmacology
Adora works by stopping the bacteria from building their cell walls, which leads to bacterial cell death.
Dosage & Administration
Adult and elderly: 1000 mg once a day for at least 10 days for throat and tonsil infections. For other infections like pneumonia or urinary tract infections, 1000 mg twice a day.
Children: 30 mg per kg of body weight, once a day for at least 10 days for throat and tonsil infections. For other infections, divide the dose into two daily doses.
Renal impairment: Dose adjustment is required for patients with kidney problems.
For children under 6: Liquid form is recommended. Adora is not recommended for children with severe kidney problems or requiring dialysis.
Interaction
Adora may increase bleeding when taken with blood thinners. Adora can also interact with certain medications like Probenecid.
Contraindications
Adora should not be used in patients with an allergy to Cephalosporins or Penicillins. Adora is also not recommended for use with certain antibiotics like tetracycline, erythromycin, and sulfonamides due to possible interactions.
Side Effects
Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and rash. Rare side effects include headaches, dizziness, and allergic reactions like anaphylactic shock.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Adora is not recommended during pregnancy unless necessary. Adora is present in low amounts in breast milk, but caution is advised during breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings
Adora should be used with caution in patients with severe allergies, kidney problems, or a history of gastrointestinal issues. Long-term use may lead to fungal infections.
Overdose Effects
Overdose may cause symptoms like nausea, confusion, hallucinations, and kidney problems.
