Adpas
Form: Tablet
Strength: 15mg
Generic Name: Pioglitazone
Company: General Pharmaceuticals Ltd.
MRP:৳ 8.0 (Tablet)
Is Antibiotic: No
Indications
Adpas is used along with diet and exercise to help control blood sugar in people with type II diabetes. Adpas can be used alone or with other medicines like sulphonylurea, Metformin, or Insulin if diet and exercise alone are not enough to control blood sugar.
Pharmacology
Adpas is a type of medicine called thiazolidinediones. Adpas works only when there is Insulin in the body. Adpas helps lower the resistance to Insulin in the body and liver, which increases the use of Insulin and reduces the amount of sugar the liver makes. Adpas also helps fix problems with fat metabolism by activating a specific receptor in the body.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: Take one tablet daily, regardless of meals. The dose should be adjusted to each person’s needs. Start with 15 mg or 30 mg per day if diet and exercise alone are not enough. If needed, the dose can be increased up to 45 mg per day. The daily dose should not exceed 45 mg. If Adpas doesn’t work on its own, Adpas can be combined with other medicines.
Maximum dose: Do not take more than 45 mg per day, as higher doses have not been tested in clinical studies.
Interaction
If taken with oral contraceptives containing ethinyl oestradiol and norethindrone, the levels of both hormones in the blood may decrease by about 30%, which could reduce the effectiveness of contraception.
Contraindications
Adpas is not safe for people who are allergic to any of its ingredients.
Side Effects
Common side effects include upper respiratory tract infections (13.2%), headaches (9.1%), sinus problems (6.3%), muscle pain (5.4%), tooth issues (5.3%), and sore throat (5.1%).
Pregnancy & Lactation
If pregnant, Adpas should only be used if the benefits outweigh the risks to the baby. Adpas is not known if Adpas passes into breast milk, so Adpas should not be used by breastfeeding women unless necessary.
