Indications

Alenil IV Injection is used to relieve symptoms caused by seasonal and year-round allergies. Alenil IV Injection is also used to treat skin reactions in chronic idiopathic urticaria and asthma caused by allergens.

Pharmacology

Alenil IV Injection is a strong H1 receptor blocker that doesn’t cause significant side effects like dryness or serotonin-related problems. When taken at normal doses, Alenil IV Injection doesn’t cause much drowsiness or behavior changes. Alenil IV Injection works by blocking the early allergic reaction and also helps reduce the movement of inflammatory cells and release of substances in the later stages of the allergic reaction.

Pharmacokinetics

After taking a 10 mg dose, Alenil IV Injection reaches peak blood levels in about 1 hour (257 mcg/L in adults, 980 mcg/L in children). Food doesn’t affect how much is absorbed, but Alenil IV Injection may slow Alenil IV Injection down a little. Alenil IV Injection takes 30-60 minutes to reach peak blood levels of 0.3 mcg/mL. The body removes Alenil IV Injection in about 11 hours, and Alenil IV Injection is excreted by the kidneys at a rate of 30 mL/min.

Dosage & Administration

For oral tablets:

Adults and children 6 years and older: 1 tablet or 2 teaspoons daily (or 1 teaspoon twice daily).

Children 2-6 years: 1 teaspoon once daily or ½ teaspoon twice daily.

Children 6 months to 2 years: ½ teaspoon once daily. Children 12-23 months may take up to ½ teaspoon every 12 hours.

For injectable form: This form is for intravenous use only. The recommended dose is 10 mg for adults and 5 mg or 10 mg for children 6-11 years, depending on symptoms.

Alenil IV Injection is not recommended for children under 6 years with liver or kidney problems.

Interaction

No serious drug interactions have been found with Theophylline, Azithromycin, Pseudoephedrine, Ketoconazole, Erythromycin, or other drugs.

Contraindications

Alenil IV Injection should not be used by people who have had a hypersensitive reaction to Cetirizine or Hydroxyzine.

Side Effects

The most common side effect is drowsiness or sleepiness.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Alenil IV Injection is in Pregnancy Category B. There are no well-controlled studies for pregnant women. Alenil IV Injection should only be used if needed. Alenil IV Injection can pass into breast milk, so caution is advised when used by nursing women.

Precautions & Warnings

Be careful when driving or using heavy machinery as Alenil IV Injection may cause drowsiness.
