Indications

Alfumax 2.5 is used to treat symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), such as frequent urination, nighttime urination, feeling like the bladder isn’t fully empty, and trouble starting to urinate.

Pharmacology

Alfumax 2.5 works by blocking specific receptors called alpha-1 adrenoreceptors found in the prostate, bladder base, bladder neck, and nearby areas. This helps relax the muscles in these areas, making Alfumax 2.5 easier to urinate. Alfumax 2.5 reduces pressure in the urethra and helps improve urine flow without causing major drops in blood pressure.

Dosage & Administration

For BPH: Take 10 mg once daily after a meal.

For Acute Urinary Retention (AUR): For people aged 65 and older, take 10 mg daily after a meal starting from the first day of catheter use. Continue for 3-4 days, including 2-3 days while using the catheter and 1 day after Alfumax 2.5’s removed. This is not recommended for people under 65 or for treatment longer than 4 days.

Interaction

Alfumax 2.5 should not be used with other alpha-1 blockers. Use caution if taken with blood pressure medicines, nitrates, or strong CYP3A4 inhibitors like ketoconazole, itraconazole, and ritonavir, as these can increase its effects.

Contraindications

Alfumax 2.5 should not be used by people with severe liver problems, low blood pressure, or a history of fainting when standing up.

Side Effects

Common side effects include dizziness, headache, tiredness, and stomach discomfort. Some people may experience low blood pressure, especially when standing up, which can cause fainting.

Alfumax 2.5 is not intended for use in women. If a woman is exposed to Alfumax 2.5 by mistake during pregnancy or breastfeeding, a doctor should be consulted immediately.
