Indications

Algicid JR is used to treat acid reflux, heartburn, gas related to acid reflux, and discomfort in the chest and stomach caused by acid moving up from the stomach.

Pharmacology

After taking Algicid JR, Algicid JR reacts with stomach acid and forms a protective layer that floats on top of stomach contents. This layer prevents acid from moving up into the food pipe and provides relief for up to 4 hours. In severe cases, this protective layer itself may reach the food pipe instead of stomach acid, providing a soothing effect.

Dosage & Administration

For children 1-2 years old: Use only after consulting a doctor.

For babies under 4.5 kg: 1 sachet, up to 6 times daily.

For babies over 4.5 kg: 2 sachets, up to 6 times daily.

For bottle-fed babies: Mix the sachet with 115 ml (4 fl oz) of formula, shake well, and feed as usual.

For breastfed babies and other infants: Mix the sachet with 5 ml (1 teaspoon) of cooled boiled water to form a smooth paste, then add 10 ml (2 teaspoons) of cooled boiled water and mix again. Give Algicid JR with a spoon or bottle partway through the feed for breastfed babies, or at the end of meals for other infants.

Do not use more than 6 times in 24 hours. Algicid JR is not suitable for children over 2 years, adults, or the elderly.

Interaction

Algicid JR may affect the absorption of certain medicines, so there should be a 2-hour gap between taking this and other drugs such as antibiotics (tetracyclines, fluoroquinolones), heart medications (digoxin, beta-blockers), iron supplements, thyroid medicines, and some other treatments.

Contraindications

Algicid JR should not be used by people who are allergic to any of its ingredients, including methyl parahydroxybenzoate and propyl parahydroxybenzoate.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Studies show Algicid JR is safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Algicid JR does not cause harm to unborn babies or breastfed infants. However, Algicid JR should be used only if needed.

Precautions & Warnings

If symptoms do not improve after 7 days, consult a doctor. Each 20 ml dose contains sodium and calcium, so people with high calcium levels or kidney problems should use caution.

Overdose Effects

Overdosing is rare, but if too much is taken, consult a doctor immediately.
