Indications

Alopin is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Alopin can be taken alone or with other medications to lower blood pressure.

Alopin is also used for treating chest pain (angina) and can be used alone or with other medications for this purpose.

Alopin is used for treating a type of chest pain called vasospastic angina, either by itself or with other medicines.

Pharmacology

Alopin is a medication that works by blocking calcium channels in the blood vessels and heart. Alopin helps relax and widen blood vessels, which lowers blood pressure and helps the heart pump more effectively. This leads to improved oxygen supply to the heart and better heart function.

Dosage & Administration

High blood pressure: The usual dose is 5 mg once a day. The maximum dose is 10 mg once a day. For older patients or those with liver problems, the starting dose is 2.5 mg once a day.

Angina: The dose is usually between 5 to 10 mg, with lower doses recommended for older patients or those with liver problems.

Alopin can be taken with or without food.

Interaction

Alopin is important to avoid combining Alopin with certain medications, especially if the patient has serious heart conditions. Always consult with a doctor before combining Alopin with other drugs like digoxin, cimetidine, or warfarin. Food does not affect how Alopin is absorbed in the body.

Contraindications

Alopin should not be used by people who are allergic to calcium-channel blockers or are pregnant.

Side Effects

Common side effects include dizziness, flushing, headaches, low blood pressure, and swelling of the feet or ankles. Some people may also experience stomach problems, feeling tired, eye pain, or depression. In some cases, Alopin may cause chest pain to worsen or lead to a dangerous drop in blood pressure.

Pregnancy & Lactation

If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, consult a doctor before using Alopin. Alopin should only be used during pregnancy if the benefits outweigh the risks to the baby. Alopin is not known if Alopin passes into breast milk, so breastfeeding should be stopped while using this medication.

Precautions & Warnings

Alopin should be used with caution in people with liver problems or during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Overdose Effects

Symptoms of overdose may include very low blood pressure, fast heart rate, dizziness, or even shock. Treatment may involve giving medications to raise blood pressure and providing other supportive care. In some cases, using calcium gluconate or gastric lavage may help reverse the effects of overdose.

Therapeutic Class

Alopin belongs to the class of medications called calcium-channel blockers.

Storage Conditions

Store Alopin in a cool, dry place, away from light. Keep Alopin out of reach of children.
