Indications

Alphapress 2 is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), both essential and secondary types. Alphapress 2 can be used alone or with other medications like diuretics to help control blood pressure. Alphapress 2 is also safe for patients with kidney problems. Additionally, Alphapress 2 is used in treating left ventricular failure when other treatments have not worked well. Alphapress 2 helps with Raynaud’s disease and phenomenon, and is also used to treat urinary problems caused by an enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia).

Pharmacology

Alphapress 2 works by relaxing the blood vessels, which lowers blood pressure. Alphapress 2 has a stronger effect on the lower (diastolic) blood pressure. Alphapress 2 doesn’t cause blood pressure to rise again if treatment stops suddenly. Alphapress 2 also helps in heart failure by improving blood flow and reducing strain on the heart. Alphapress 2 can reduce the frequency and severity of symptoms in Raynaud’s disease and improve urinary flow in men with prostate problems. Alphapress 2 doesn’t harm the cholesterol or lipid levels in the body.

Dosage & Administration

Hypertension: Start with a low dose and gradually increase Alphapress 2 to find the right amount for the patient. The usual maximum daily dose is 20 mg, divided into smaller doses. For patients not on other blood pressure medications, start with 0.5 mg at bedtime, and gradually increase Alphapress 2. If taking other medications, adjust the doses carefully to avoid side effects.

Left Ventricular Failure: Start with 0.5 mg, and adjust the dose based on how the patient responds. Maximum daily doses range from 4 mg to 20 mg.

Raynaud’s Disease: Start with 0.5 mg twice a day, and adjust based on the patient’s response.

Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia: Start with 0.5 mg twice a day for 3-7 days, then adjust the dose. The usual daily dose is 2 mg twice a day. Doses above 4 mg per day should be used with caution.
