Aluric
Form: Tablet
Strength: 100mg
Generic Name: Allopurinol
Company: Sonear Laboratories Ltd.
MRP:৳ 4.1 (Tablet)
Is Antibiotic: No
Indications
Aluric is used to lower uric acid levels in conditions where uric acid buildup has already happened, such as gouty arthritis, kidney stones, and certain metabolic disorders.
Pharmacology
Aluric works by blocking an enzyme that helps produce uric acid. This reduces uric acid levels without affecting the body’s ability to make other important substances. Aluric is well absorbed from the stomach, reaches peak levels in 1.5 to 4.5 hours, and is mostly removed through urine and feces.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: Start with 100 mg daily. The dose can be increased based on response:
• Mild cases: 100-200 mg per day
• Moderate cases: 300-600 mg per day
• Severe cases: 700-900 mg per day
Children: 10-20 mg per kg per day, up to 400 mg daily, mainly for certain metabolic disorders.
Elderly: Use the lowest dose that works well.
Kidney Problems: If kidney function is poor, lower doses should be used.
Interaction
Aluric can increase the effects of certain drugs, including 6-mercaptopurine, azathioprine, and ciclosporin. Aluric may also cause skin reactions when taken with amoxicillin or ampicillin. Caution is needed when using Aluric with theophylline or vidarabine.
Contraindications
Aluric should not be used by people allergic to Aluric.
Side Effects
Common side effects include skin rashes, stomach discomfort, headache, dizziness, and drowsiness. Rare effects include hair loss, liver issues, nerve problems, and changes in blood levels.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Aluric should only be used during pregnancy if there is no safer option and if the condition poses a risk to the mother or baby. There is not enough data on its effects during breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings
Stop using Aluric immediately if a skin rash or allergic reaction occurs. Lower doses should be used for people with liver or kidney problems. Caution is needed for those with heart or blood pressure issues.
