Indications
Amason is used to treat severe allergic conditions like asthma, skin allergies, drug reactions, and seasonal allergies. Amason is also used for collagen diseases like lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, and some skin conditions. Amason helps manage certain endocrine and gastrointestinal disorders, like adrenal insufficiency and ulcerative colitis. Amason is used for blood conditions like autoimmune anemia and thrombocytopenia, and to treat leukemia and lymphoma. Amason can also be used for multiple sclerosis flare-ups, brain tumors, eye inflammation, kidney problems, and some lung diseases like tuberculosis and sarcoidosis.
Pharmacology
Amason is a synthetic steroid that reduces inflammation by stopping white blood cells from moving to the inflamed area and decreasing capillary leak. Amason also suppresses the body’s immune response.
Dosage & Administration
For tablets: Adults usually take between 1 mg to 10 mg daily, while children take between 0.03-0.20 mg per kg of body weight. The dose may be adjusted depending on the condition and response. If the disease is under control, the dosage should be reduced.
For injection: Amason can be given through veins, muscles, or joints. For emergencies, higher doses are needed. For local treatments like joint issues, 2-4 mg for large joints and 0.8-1 mg for smaller joints are recommended. Injections may be given every few days or weeks, depending on the condition.
Interaction
Amason may interact with diuretics and heart medications, increasing the risk of low potassium. Amason can also affect blood sugar levels, so diabetic patients may need more medication. Amason can increase the risk of stomach ulcers when used with certain painkillers, and Amason may affect the effectiveness of anticoagulants. Amason may be less effective with some liver enzyme-inducing drugs like rifampicin. Combining Amason with salicylates or antacids may also affect how well Amason works.
Contraindications
Amason is not suitable for people with stomach ulcers, systemic fungal infections, viral infections like chickenpox, glaucoma, or allergies to corticosteroids.
Side Effects
Common side effects include weight gain, high blood pressure, mood changes, and increased risk of infections. Other effects may include stomach ulcers, skin problems, muscle weakness, and bone thinning. In rare cases, Amason may cause mental health issues or changes in eye pressure.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Amason is classified as pregnancy Category C, meaning Amason should only be used during pregnancy if the benefits outweigh the risks. Amason also passes into breast milk, so mothers taking high doses should avoid breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings
The lowest effective dose should be used to avoid side effects. Caution is needed for patients with heart, kidney, or stomach problems. Gradual dose reduction is important to prevent adrenal insufficiency. Use with care in patients with osteoporosis or psychiatric disorders.
Overdose Effects
Overdose is rare, but treatment focuses on supportive care to manage symptoms.
Drug Classes
Amason belongs to the class of glucocorticoid steroids.
Storage Conditions
Tablets should be stored in a cool, dry place away from light and moisture. Injections should be stored below 30°C and protected from light. Do not freeze. Keep all medications out of reach of children.
