Indications
Amdocal Pro 2.5/5 is used to treat high blood pressure, especially for patients who are already controlled with separate doses of the individual medicines but now need a combination therapy in one tablet.
Pharmacology
Amdocal Pro 2.5/5 is a combination of Amlodipine and Bisoprolol Fumarate. Amlodipine is a calcium blocker that reduces blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels. Amdocal Pro 2.5/5 works by limiting calcium entry into muscle cells in blood vessels, which reduces resistance and lowers blood pressure. Bisoprolol Fumarate is a type of beta-blocker that specifically targets the heart. Amdocal Pro 2.5/5 helps to reduce heart rate and blood pressure by blocking certain receptors in the heart, without affecting the airways or metabolism significantly.
Dosage & Administration
Adult & Elderly: One tablet daily for patients whose blood pressure is controlled with the individual medicines in the same doses as the combination.
Interaction
Avoid using with calcium blockers like verapamil and diltiazem, and centrally-acting antihypertensive medicines. Be cautious with drugs that affect liver enzymes, such as strong CYP3A4 inhibitors, simvastatin, or immunosuppressants like Tacrolimus. Other medications that lower blood pressure, such as NSAIDs and some heart rhythm drugs, should be used with care.
Contraindications
Amdocal Pro 2.5/5 is not suitable for patients with severe heart conditions such as heart failure, heart block, or low heart rate, as well as those with severe asthma, certain vascular diseases, untreated adrenal tumors, or sensitivity to Bisoprolol, Amlodipine, or any other components of the medicine.
Side Effects
Common side effects include dizziness, headaches, tiredness, and swelling, particularly in the legs. Other possible effects are nausea, constipation, breathing problems (especially in asthma patients), and low blood pressure. Some may also experience changes in mood, sleep issues, muscle pain, and in rare cases, allergic reactions.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Amdocal Pro 2.5/5 is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Consult a doctor before use in these conditions.
Precautions & Warnings
People with heart failure or other heart conditions should use this medicine with caution. Sudden stopping of Bisoprolol may worsen symptoms, so Amdocal Pro 2.5/5 should be gradually reduced. Caution is also needed in people with lung disease, diabetes, and peripheral artery disease. Patients should inform their doctor before any surgery, as beta-blockers can affect anesthesia.
Overdose Effects
Overdose can cause slow heart rate, low blood pressure, difficulty breathing, and low blood sugar. If overdose occurs, discontinue the medicine and seek immediate medical attention for supportive treatment.
