Indications

Amdopril 5/10 is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). This combination medicine is not meant for the first treatment of hypertension.

Pharmacology

Amdopril 5/10 is a combination of two medicines, Amlodipine and Benazepril, used to lower high blood pressure. Benazepril works by blocking an enzyme that causes blood vessels to tighten. This helps lower blood pressure. Amlodipine is a calcium blocker that helps relax the blood vessels and reduce blood pressure. Both medicines work together to lower blood pressure and improve blood flow. After taking the medicine, Benazepril reaches its highest level in the blood in about 0.5-2 hours, while Amlodipine peaks in 6-12 hours. The effects last for 24 hours, with a blood pressure drop of about 10-25 mmHg (systolic) and 6-13 mmHg (diastolic).

Dosage & Administration

Adults: Take 2.5-10 mg of Amlodipine and 10-80 mg of Benazepril once a day. The doctor may adjust the dose based on the patient’s condition.

Starting Therapy: Amdopril 5/10 is best to start therapy with this combination after other treatments have not worked or if the patient has problems with swelling from Amlodipine.

Replacement Therapy: For convenience, patients can switch from separate pills of Amlodipine and Benazepril to this combination capsule.

Interaction

Amdopril 5/10 may interact with diuretics (water pills) and potassium supplements. If taken together, potassium levels should be monitored. Amdopril 5/10 can also be safely used with other medicines like beta-blockers, diuretics, and calcium blockers.

Amdopril 5/10 should not be used by patients who are allergic to Benazepril, Amlodipine, or any other ACE inhibitors.
