Indications

Antrenex 1% is used to treat conditions such as stomach spasms, excessive stomach movement, heart spasms, esophagus spasms, inflammation of the stomach and duodenum, constipation, stomach blockage, ulcers, spasms linked to cancer, pain and spasms in the bile ducts, and pain and spasms in the urinary tract.

Pharmacology

Antrenex 1% is an anticholinergic drug, which means Antrenex 1% blocks the effects of acetylcholine, a chemical that stimulates muscles. By blocking acetylcholine receptors on smooth muscles, Antrenex 1% helps relax them. Antrenex 1% is used to treat or prevent spasms in the gastrointestinal tract, such as in irritable bowel syndrome. Antrenex 1% also reduces the movement of the stomach and intestines, lowers gastric acid production, and helps control excessive secretions in the throat, windpipe, and lungs.

Dosage & Administration

Adult: The typical dose is 10 mg (2 tablets) four times a day for several days. The dose may be adjusted based on the patient’s response or as advised by the doctor.

Interaction

Antrenex 1% may reduce the absorption of other medications due to its effect on gastric motility. Its effects can be stronger when combined with other drugs that have antimuscarinic properties, such as amantadine, certain antihistamines, phenothiazines, and tricyclic antidepressants.

Contraindications

Antrenex 1% is not recommended for people with glaucoma, urinary tract blockage (such as in enlarged prostate), gastrointestinal blockage (such as achalasia or intestinal paralysis), certain heart conditions, severe ulcerative colitis, toxic megacolon, myasthenia gravis, or allergies to the drug.

Side Effects

Common side effects include dry mouth, headache, and palpitations.

Pregnancy & Lactation

There are no controlled studies in pregnant women, and animal studies have shown potential risks to the fetus. This drug should only be used during pregnancy if the potential benefits outweigh the risks to the baby.

Precautions & Warnings

Precaution should be taken when using this medication in children, the elderly, those with benign prostate enlargement, heart conditions (including heart attack, heart failure, high blood pressure, or thyroid problems), during pregnancy and breastfeeding, or in those with a history of fever or glaucoma.

Overdose Effects

The treatment for overdose is similar to that of atropine overdose.

Keep below 30°C temperature, away from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
