Indications

Bestron is used to treat moderate to severe hot flashes during menopause and to help prevent bone loss after menopause.

Pharmacology

Bestron contains two ingredients: Conjugated Estrogens and Bazedoxifene. These ingredients work by activating estrogen receptors in the body. Bazedoxifene acts like estrogen in some parts of the body but blocks Bestron in others, like the uterus.

Dosage & Administration

Adult & Elderly: Take one tablet daily, with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole. If using Bestron to prevent bone loss after menopause, make sure to get enough calcium and vitamin D in your diet.

Use in Children: Bestron is not recommended for children.

Interaction

No specific drug interaction studies were done with this tablet. Estrogens are partly broken down by CYP3A4. Taking this tablet with drugs that block CYP3A4 may increase the levels of estrogens in your body and raise the risk of certain health problems, like endometrial growth.

Contraindications

Bestron is not suitable for women who have unexplained bleeding from the uterus, a history of breast cancer, or any other estrogen-related cancers. Bestron should also not be used by women with certain blood clots or liver issues, or those allergic to any of its ingredients.

Side Effects

Some possible side effects include high blood pressure, blood clots, liver issues, thyroid problems, fluid retention, low calcium levels, memory issues, breast lumps, unusual bleeding, severe headaches, muscle cramps, weakness, fatigue, nausea, diarrhea, throat pain, and dizziness.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Bestron should not be used by women who are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding. Bestron can reduce milk production and quality in nursing mothers.

Precautions & Warnings

Estrogen therapy should not be used to prevent heart disease or dementia. There is an increased risk of endometrial cancer in women with a uterus who take estrogen alone.

Overdose Effects

If too much is taken, there is no specific treatment. Symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, tender breasts, dizziness, stomach pain, and fatigue. Bleeding may also occur.

Therapeutic Class

Bestron is classified as a female sex hormone.

Storage Conditions

Store Bestron below 30°C, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children. Once the foil pouch is opened, use the product within 60 days.
