Generic Name: Diclofenac Sodium 0.1% Eye prep
Company: Chemist Laboratories Ltd.

Indications
C Fenac is indicated for pre- and post-operative use, for example, in cataract surgery. C Fenac can also be used to treat non-infected chronic conditions like conjunctivitis, keratoconjunctivitis, and non-infected post-traumatic conditions of the cornea and conjunctiva.
Pharmacology
C Fenac works by blocking the action of cyclo-oxygenase, an enzyme that produces chemicals called prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are produced in response to injury or disease and cause pain, swelling, and inflammation. By blocking their production, C Fenac helps reduce these symptoms.
Dosage & Administration
Pre-operatively: Instill 1 drop in the conjunctival sac up to 5 times in the 3 hours before surgery.
Post-operatively: Instill 1 drop in the conjunctival sac 15, 30, and 45 minutes after surgery; then 3-5 times daily as needed.
Inflammatory conditions: Instill 1 drop in the conjunctival sac 4-5 times daily, depending on the severity of the condition.
Interaction
No drug interactions have been reported. If another ophthalmic solution (such as a steroid) is used, there should be at least a 5-minute gap between applications.
Contraindications
C Fenac is contraindicated in patients who are allergic to any of its components. Like other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), C Fenac should not be used by patients who have experienced asthma, hives, or acute rhinitis after using acetylsalicylic acid or other cyclo-oxygenase inhibitors.
Side Effects
The most common side effect is a mild to moderate burning sensation, occurring in 5-15% of patients, which is usually temporary and does not require stopping treatment. Other less common side effects include sensitivity to light, bad taste, feeling of pressure, and allergic reactions.
Pregnancy & Lactation
The safety of C Fenac during pregnancy and lactation has not been established. Its use is not recommended unless the benefits to the mother outweigh the potential risks to the child.
Precautions & Warnings
C Fenac may mask signs of infection, so healthcare providers should be cautious of any developing infections in patients. During long-term use, periodic eye exams, including checking intraocular pressure, are recommended. Contact lenses should not be worn while using the treatment.
