Calbon PLUS is used for preventing and treating osteoporosis, maintaining strong bone growth, supporting the proper function of the heart, muscles, and nerves, as a nutritional supplement, and for bone development and regeneration. Calbon PLUS is also used in cases of Calcium, Vitamin D3, Magnesium, Zinc, Copper, Manganese, and Boron deficiency.
Pharmacology
Nutrition plays a key role in preventing osteoporosis and other bone-related conditions. Calcium, Magnesium, and Vitamin D3 are essential for bones. Vitamin D3 helps the body absorb Calcium, while Magnesium also strengthens bones. Studies show that Copper, Manganese, Zinc, and Boron are important for bone health. Deficiency of these micronutrients is common in people with osteoporosis.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: Take 1 film-coated tablet twice daily, preferably one in the morning and one in the evening, or as directed by your doctor. Calbon PLUS is best taken with or just after meals with a full glass of water.
Children (3-7 years): Take 1 effervescent tablet daily.
Children (7 years and older): Take 1 to 2 effervescent tablets daily.
Interaction
Taking this with thiazide diuretics may increase calcium levels. Hypocalcemia should be avoided in patients using digitalis. Certain foods, like those containing oxalic acid or phosphate, may reduce calcium absorption. If taken with phenytoin or barbiturates, the effect of Vitamin D3 may decrease. Glucocorticoids can also reduce Vitamin D3’s effect. Calcium combined with Vitamin D3 can affect digitalis and other heart medications, so close monitoring of ECG and calcium levels is recommended. Calcium salts can also affect the absorption of thyroid medication, bisphosphonates, some antibiotics, and iron. Wait at least four hours before taking calcium with these medications.
Contraindications
Calbon PLUS is contraindicated in patients with hypercalcemia caused by myeloma, bone metastasis, or other malignant bone diseases, sarcoidosis, primary hyperparathyroidism, Vitamin D3 overdose, severe renal failure, or hypersensitivity to any ingredients of the tablet. Relative contraindications include osteoporosis due to prolonged immobilization, renal stones, and severe hypercalciuria.
Side Effects
Side effects of calcium supplements are rare but can include mild stomach issues like constipation, bloating, nausea, stomach pain, and diarrhea. Occasionally, a skin rash has been reported with Vitamin D3. In rare cases, long-term use at high doses can lead to hypercalciuria or hypercalcemia.
Pregnancy & Lactation
If pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, consult your doctor before using this product. During pregnancy and breastfeeding, the need for calcium and Vitamin D3 increases, but the supplementation should be adjusted considering other sources of these nutrients. If both calcium and iron supplements are needed, take them at different times. Overdose of Vitamin D3 during pregnancy may cause birth defects in animals, and long-term hypercalcemia in humans can lead to physical and mental delays, as well as heart and eye problems in newborns. Vitamin D3 passes into breast milk.
Precautions & Warnings
Patients with mild to moderate kidney failure or mild hypercalciuria should be closely monitored. Periodic checks of calcium levels in the blood and urine are recommended. In patients with a history of kidney stones, urinary calcium excretion should be measured. For long-term use, monitor kidney function, and adjust the dosage if calcium levels exceed 7.5 mmol/24 hours.
Overdose Effects
Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, dry mouth, loss of appetite, metallic taste, stomach cramps, diarrhea, headache, and constipation.
