Indications
Cardizem 30 is used to prevent and treat chronic stable angina (chest pain) and vasospastic angina. Cardizem 30 can also help manage high blood pressure and is used in treating conditions like heart attacks, coronary artery spasms, abnormal heart rhythms, Raynaud’s disease, issues with esophageal movement, and migraines.
Pharmacology
Cardizem 30 is a calcium channel blocker that helps widen blood vessels and relaxes the heart. Cardizem 30 works by blocking calcium from entering the heart and blood vessels. This helps to lower blood pressure, improve blood flow, and reduce chest pain. Cardizem 30 also slows down the heart rate and helps manage abnormal heart rhythms.
Dosage & Administration
Film-coated tablet: The usual dose is 60 mg three times a day. The dose may be increased to 180-300 mg/day based on your doctor’s advice. For some cases, higher doses up to 480 mg/day may be needed. Start with 30 mg four times a day and gradually increase every 1 to 2 days to reach the best response.
Elderly or those with liver or kidney problems: The recommended starting dose is 60 mg twice a day. The heart rate should be checked regularly, and the dose should not be increased if the heart rate falls below 50 beats per minute.
Sustained release tablet: For mild to moderate high blood pressure, start with 90 mg or 120 mg twice daily (elderly may need once daily). Up to 360 mg daily may be needed for full effect. For angina, start with 90 mg or 120 mg twice daily (elderly up to 240 mg daily).
Interaction
Cardizem 30 can be safely used with short or long-acting nitrates. Caution is advised when used with other medications that can affect heart function or conduction.

Cardizem 30 is not suitable for patients who are allergic to Cardizem 30, have sick sinus syndrome, second or third-degree heart block, severe high blood pressure, or those recovering from a heart attack with lung congestion shown in X-rays.
