The extended-release version is used to treat Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) on its own.
Pharmacology
Clonipres ER 0.1 works by stimulating certain receptors in the brain. When taken in the immediate-release form, blood pressure starts to decrease within 30 to 60 minutes, with the most noticeable effect happening within 2 to 4 hours. The function of the kidneys stays the same, and normal body reflexes remain intact, so dizziness from standing up is rare.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: The dose should be adjusted based on how the patient responds to the treatment.
Initial dose: 0.1 mg twice a day (morning and evening). Elderly patients may need a lower starting dose.
Maintenance dose: The dose can be increased by 0.1 mg per day every week, if needed, until the desired effect is achieved. Common doses range from 0.2 mg to 0.6 mg per day in divided doses. If kidney problems are present, the dose must be adjusted and monitored carefully.
For ADHD: Immediate-release: 5 mcg/kg/day, Extended-release: 0.1 mg/day for 8 weeks.
For Menopausal Flushing: 0.1 mg to 0.4 mg per day.
For Alcohol Withdrawal: 0.3 to 0.6 mg every 6 hours or as prescribed by the doctor.
Use in Children & Adolescents: Safety and effectiveness have not been proven in children.
