Indications
Co Valtin 5/80 is used to treat high blood pressure. This combination is not for starting treatment for high blood pressure.
Pharmacology
Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker that reduces calcium entry into blood vessel and heart muscles. Valsartan blocks the effects of Angiotensin II, which causes blood vessels to tighten and promotes salt retention. Together, they lower blood pressure by reducing the resistance in blood vessels. Their actions work together to help manage high blood pressure.
Dosage & Administration
For High Blood Pressure: Take Amlodipine in doses of 2.5 mg to 10 mg once daily, and Valsartan in doses of 80 mg to 320 mg once daily. Both medicines are more effective when taken together. The effect starts within 2 weeks of treatment. If needed, the dose can be increased after 1 to 2 weeks to control blood pressure. This combination can be taken with or without food. Co Valtin 5/80 can also be used with other blood pressure medicines.
For Elderly: Start with a lower dose of 2.5 mg of Amlodipine.
For Renal or Liver Impairment: No dosage adjustment is needed for mild or moderate impairment. For severe cases, slow dose adjustments should be made.
Interaction
No studies have been done on the interaction of Amlodipine and Valsartan together, but individual studies on the components have been conducted.
Contraindications
Co Valtin 5/80 is not safe for people who are allergic to any of the ingredients in this product.
Side Effects
Side effects are usually mild and temporary. The most common ones include swelling in the legs, nasal stuffiness, sore throat, difficulty swallowing, dizziness, and upper respiratory infections.
Pregnancy & Lactation
This medication is not safe during pregnancy (Category D). Co Valtin 5/80 is unclear if the drug is passed into breast milk. A decision should be made whether to stop breastfeeding or stop the drug, considering the importance of the drug for the mother.
Precautions & Warnings
Avoid using this during pregnancy. Check for low blood pressure. Patients with severe coronary artery disease should be cautious due to risks of heart problems. Slowly adjust the dose for patients with liver or kidney issues.
