Generic Name: Ipratropium Bromide + Salbutamol
Company: ACI Limited
MRP:৳ 250.75 (200 metered doses)
Is Antibiotic: No
Indications
Combair HFA is used to treat patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) who still have breathing problems even after using regular bronchodilators. Combair HFA helps by providing a second bronchodilator to improve breathing.
Pharmacology
Combair HFA is a combination of Salbutamol (as Sulphate) and Ipratropium Bromide in an environment-friendly inhaler. This inhaler uses hydrofluoroalkane (HFA) as a propellant instead of chlorofluorocarbon (CFC), which harms the ozone layer.
Salbutamol is a short-acting bronchodilator, and Ipratropium Bromide is an anticholinergic bronchodilator. Together, they work in two different ways to open the airways, helping people with COPD breathe easier. Salbutamol stimulates beta2-receptors, and Ipratropium blocks certain chemicals that cause narrowing of the airways.
Dosage & Administration
Adult & Elderly: Use 2 puffs, 4 times a day. Additional puffs may be taken if needed, but do not exceed 12 puffs in 24 hours. Follow your doctor’s instructions.
Interaction
Combair HFA has been used with other COPD medications, including bronchodilators, methylxanthines, and steroids. No formal studies have been done with these drugs and this inhaler. Combair HFA should be used with caution when combined with other anticholinergic drugs or sympathomimetics, as Combair HFA may increase the risk of heart problems. Combair HFA should also be used carefully with certain antidepressants and diuretics.
Contraindications
Combair HFA is not recommended for people who are allergic to soy lecithin, soybeans, peanuts, or any other ingredients in the inhaler. Combair HFA should also be avoided by people allergic to atropine or similar drugs.
Side Effects
Common side effects include mild tremors and headaches, which usually go away with continued use. In rare cases, there may be muscle cramps, allergic reactions like swelling, hives, breathing problems, or low blood pressure.
Other rare side effects from Ipratropium Bromide include headache, flu-like symptoms, chest pain, nausea, trouble breathing, coughing, sore throat, and sinus problems.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Ipratropium Bromide: Pregnancy category B. No harm to the baby has been seen in studies.
Salbutamol: Pregnancy category C. Combair HFA may cause harm to animals but there is no direct evidence for humans.
This inhaler should be used during pregnancy only if the benefits outweigh the risks to the baby. Combair HFA is unclear if the medication passes into breast milk, so Combair HFA should be used cautiously in nursing mothers.
Precautions & Warnings
There are no specific precautions listed, but always consult your doctor before use, especially if you have other medical conditions.
Overdose Effects
Overdose may cause symptoms such as chest pain, high blood pressure, low potassium levels, and a fast heart rate. If overdose occurs, seek medical attention immediately.
